Challenge Yourself

One great way increase your chances of success is to challenge yourself. If you have a goal to achieve, one way to reach that goal is to set up mini challenges that take you one step closer to your ultimate goal. This is a great way to ensure progression to a goal. The trick is to break the goal up into smaller bite sized mini goals. You have a much better chance of reaching your goal when you focus on smaller, more digestible challenges. This works for a number of reasons.

  1. Motivates – When working on small challenges the goal usually seems more achievable. This minimizes the task in your mind so that you can envision completing it in short order. Having a smaller task with an end in site can be huge motivation to keep on working towards a goal.
  2. Promotes Focus – A major goal will usually require several small tasks in order to reach that goal. Focusing on the big picture all the time is sure to leave you confused and bouncing around from one task to the next. Setting very specific short term challenges will allow you to focus intently on one task at a time and complete it efficiently. This will allow you to quickly move on to the next task.
  3. Provides metrics – setting up these short term challenges will give you a way to measure success along the way. With each challenge you complete you will be one step closer to the ultimate goal. This can help to avoid becoming overwhelmed and instead provide mini victories to help keep you motivated.

This week I want to set a challenge for myself to get some visitors to this blog. I plan to accomplish this simply by getting my name out there. I want to start commenting on some blogs and set up a twitter account. So far, there has only been one person viewing this blog… me! I’ve been putting off getting my name out for fear of failure. But interacting with the public is a huge part of why I’m here writing this blog. I’m really excited to start building a community and bounce ideas off of other like minded people.  Maybe no one will be interested in this blog, but then again, maybe they will. I may as well let them decide. One of my favourite things about blogs are the fact that most bloggers are real people sharing real experiences and results. That is definitely what this blog is about so I’m sure it will appeal to someone. Only time will tell so, I’ll get to it and post back sometime next week about whether I followed through and what the results were.
