Success Barriers

How to Avoid Failure

Fear of failure is the number one reason I’ve failed to create any alternative income for myself to date. I’d be willing to bet I’m not the only one. If you don’t try, you can’t succeed. It’s a technical loop hole that our psyches’ use to avoid failure, but it really only prevents success. The worst part is we’re usually not even aware we’re doing it.

I’ve been researching alternative ways of making money for at least two years. Even before that, I used to research business ideas and plan how I could make them a reality. I would even come up with vendor lists, work estimation tools, you name it; I once went so far as to create a website with logo and everything. The problem is, not one of these ideas ever went anywhere.

The truth is that I dropped these ideas before they ever had a chance to succeed; And, if I’m being honest with myself, it was because I was afraid of failing. Basically, I would get an idea, research the crap out of it to the point of information overload, and procrastinate about putting it into action until eventually I would lose interest. It’s taken a really long time to realize this (or to at least admit it to myself).

The fact that I have finally opened my eyes means that there may be hope yet! One of the reasons for creating this blog is to hold myself accountable and make sure that I follow through on ideas that I think have potential. Even if an idea does fail, there is  bound to be a lesson in there somewhere. Just think how many lessons I’ve missed out on over the last few years.

Are you afraid of failing? Is it holding back your success? If you want to avoid failure, why not allow yourself to take action on your next idea? Imagine what success it might bring or what valuable lesson you might learn!
