Some time ago I signed up for CanadaSurveyPanel assuming I would receive invitations to surveys that I could complete in exchange for cash. It turned out that this “survey panel” is just a newsletter that delivers useless information to my inbox from time to time. For some reason I have never un-subscribed from this service.
Not long ago, I received an email from CanadaSurveyPanel with an offer that peaked my interest. The offer was for a survey panel called SurveyHead.com. The offer promised that in exchange for signing up as a member on SurveyHead.com, $5.00 would be deposited into the new member account. I figured that since I’m in the midst of my Online Survey Experiment it wouldn’t hurt to try out one more survey panel if it meant I’d receive an instant $5.00.
So that’s what I did. I signed up at the site and logged in to my account to see if the reward was there; and indeed it was. I then went to check out the cash out methods. When I entered the Rewards area, the first thing I noticed was that the minimum required balance for cash out was $25! That’s 5 times as much as the highest amount for the three panels I’m currently working with. I assumed this would be an easy 5 bucks, but as it turns out I’m going to have to earn another $20 in order to reach the cash out threshold.
LESSON LEARNED – As with anything in life, there’s no such thing as a free lunch. When you’re presented with an enticing offer its probably worth giving it a moments thought. If it’s not immediately apparent what’s in it for the person presenting the offer, it might be worth looking into the fine print so that you at least understand the terms. Once the terms are understood you can make an informed decision.
AS FOR ME AND THIS OFFER? – I’ll have to decide whether I want to put in the effort to earn the extra 20 bones in order to receive my $5 bonus. Or, perhaps I’d be better off to just abandon the panel. I’ll likely wait until I’ve finished compiling the Online Survey Experiment results. At that point I’ll be in a position to guess how much effort is typically required in order to earn $20 on one of these panels. I’ll keep you posted when I make up my mind.
